Community First: The Vision of the Willow Springs Community Foundation

The Willow Springs Community Foundation has had another great year. In December of 2016, the foundation was awarded a HOME grant to build two new LEED homes. These homes will be energy efficient as well a $356,000 asset to the local economy. Section 3 housing will be one of the main focuses of the Constructed. Using HOME funds the new houses will allow two new families of low to moderate income a head start in life. This will bring the total of homes to 31.

In November of 2016, the Historic Star Theater was found burning in the afternoon. Almost a total loss, insurance, private donations, and a grant from USDA have helped the Theater begin to rise again. The renovation should be completed by the end of 2017.

Always a leader in the community, the Willow Springs Community Foundation, with the help of the Sadie Ruth Ferguson Endowment, was able to fund $9,000 the Willow Springs Downtown Historic District needed so they could apply to Main Street Missouri. Only five cities were selected in the state of Missouri for help with downtown districts. Without the help of the Willow Springs Community Foundation, this two-year revitalization program would not be possible.

The Willow Springs Community Foundation applied for a community grant from U.S. Bank, and the funds were used by  Home Town Pride to beautify the downtown area.

The foundation continues to be a major force in the community of Willow Springs.
