Affiliate of the Year Program

One affiliate from each group below will receive an unrestricted $2,000 grant. The second-place winner from each group will receive a $500 grant at the 2018 CFO Affiliate Appreciation Conference. A point system based on level of involvement will determine the winners. The more goals an affiliate foundation achieves, the more points awarded. The program will run from August 1, 2017 to August 31, 2018.

The following point system will guide you:

70 Points

  • Establish new fund to receive a future planned gift (70 points per planned gift)

60 Points

  • Open an Endowment Fund. Options include: Unrestricted, Donor Advised, Designated, Field of Interest, Church, Organizational or Scholarship endowments. All endowments must have a $10,000 minimum contribution except Donor Advised Funds, which have a $25,000 minimum contribution. (60 points per endowment fund opened)

50 Points

  • For each new Legacy Society Individual(s) must commit to leaving a planned gift to CFO/Affiliate Foundation and complete Legacy Society form to be considered a Legacy Society member
  • Hold a Board Retreat with CFO staff in attendance. Review bylaws and board terms and plan for the coming year. Retreat should be a minimum of two hours long (one per year)
  • For every new board member that joins the affiliate board (50 points per board member)

40 Points

  • Host a Donor Appreciation Reception (one per year)
  • Engage local professional advisors at a reception, luncheon or breakfast (40 points per event, limit 2)
  • Hold at least one annual grantmaking round per year (40 points per round)
  • Have 3 or more RSVPs for the 2018 CFO Annual Affiliate Appreciation Conference (must have a minimum of 3 RSVPs to earn 40 points)
  • Establish a Legacy Society for Affiliate Foundation

30 Points

  • Open a new Family Fund, Giving Circle, or Agency Partner Fund (30 points per fund)
  • Host a town hall meeting on rural economic development (one per year)
  • Host an annual fundraising event that raises $10,000 or more (30 points per event)
  • Host a disaster preparedness meeting that includes community leaders – county commissioner, mayor, city council, etc. (one per year)

20 Points

  • Conduct regular board meetings and send meeting minutes to your CFO staff contact (20 points per meeting up to six meetings)
  • Notify CFO of board member changes for annual report by August 31. Must include complete contact information

20 Points (continued)

  • Host an annual fundraising event that raises $9,999 or less (20 points per event)
  • Host a new board member orientation and invite a CFO Regional Team member to attend (20 points per orientation, limit 2 per year)
  • Host an impactful grantmaking discussion to strengthen your community grantmaking
  • Send in webpage updates (20 points per update, up to 3 updates)
  • Engage in donor relations/donor stewardship. Examples: send thank you notes to new fundholders, send quarterly communications to existing fundholders, invite donors to grantmaking and education events (20 points per communication up to 4 communications)

 

PHILANTHROPIST GROUP:

Affiliates with Foundation Coordinators or dedicated foundation staff can earn points by engaging in above activities. Additional points are available for this group achieving the following:

50 Points

  • Achieve an 11.8% (or more) increase in assets
  • Increase unrestricted funds by 4% or more
  • Increase grantmaking by 15% or more
  • 2% increase in funds opened

20 Points

  • Attend all affiliate board meetings (20 points per board meeting)

 

TO TRACK POINTS:

  • Each month, enter the total number of points per activitiy. (e.g., 3 new board members were added in August – 50 points per new board member = 150 points for August in the new board member category)
  • If any of the following activities occurred prior to August 1, 2017, please make a note in the “Notes/Additional Activities” column so they may be counted toward your overall point total:
    • Establish a fund for planned gift
    • Open an endowment fund
    • Add new Legacy Society members
    • Hold a board retreat
    • Add new board members
    • Open a capacity fund
