CFO Opens 2012-13 Grant Cycles

Representatives of the organizations that received Community Innovations grants in 2012. The cycle will return as part of the CFO's 2012-13 Metropolitan Springfield grantmaking program.

The Community Foundation of the Ozarks announces 2012-13 competitive grant opportunities for Springfield-Greene County and regional nonprofit initiatives to address needs and improve the well being of residents and communities.

Applicants must have 501(c)3 or equivalent non-profit status to be eligible to apply for any CFO grants. For more information on any of these programs, and to apply online, visit: www.cfozarks.org/grants.

Metropolitan Springfield:

The Metropolitan Springfield Grantmaking Program is organized into five areas of interest for the 2012-13 grant cycle:

Community Response Challenge Grants – The Community Foundation will offer $125,000 in challenge grants to help support existing programs of Springfield area. These proposals should address red-flag issues identified in the 2011 Community Focus Report for Springfield-Greene County. Individual awards will be capped at $12,500.

The proposal deadline is 5 p.m., Oct. 12, 2012. Grants will be awarded in late October and successful applicants will have until Jan. 31, 2013 to raise 1:1 matching dollars for the challenge grants.

Early Childhood – A total of $50,000 will be available for grants ranging from $10,000 to $12,000 to support existing or innovative projects focused on services for children ages 2-5. Proposals should reference “best practices” for quality childcare and/or appropriate school readiness programming. Preference will be given to projects that address the “red-flag” issues identified in the Community Focus Report for early childhood development.

The application deadline is 5 p.m., Nov. 2, 2012 and awards will be announced on Nov. 20, 2012. No matching funds are required.

Community Innovation A total of $50,000 is available for the Metropolitan Springfield Community Innovation Grants, with a $10,000 to $12,000 range for proposal consideration.  Possible categories under the “Community Innovation” grant opportunity include environmental, conservation, food sustainability, and community development issues. Proposal deadline is 5 p.m., March 8, 2013, and the grants will be awarded on April 5, 2013. No matching funds are required.

Senior Issues CFO will partner for a second year with the Greene County Senior Services’ Tax Fund Board for proposals that improve the health, nutrition, and quality of life for people aged 60 and older. Applications will be accepted and reviewed each quarter with the first opportunity in September. Last year, more than $80,000 was awarded through this partnership; more funding is expected to be available this year. No matching funds are required.

Arts & Culture Grants – A total of $17,000 is available for two types of proposals accepted on a rolling basis as long as funding is available. Transformative grants of up to $4,000 are offered for organizations with budgets of $150,000 or less to encourage growth and sustainability. Any eligible arts organization may apply for up to $1,500 for collaborative projects or program assistance. Organizations interested in this grant opportunity are required to attend a free workshop at 10 a.m., Aug. 24, at the CFO.

Ozarks Regional Grant Opportunities:

Coover Regional Poverty Grants – This program will award up to $145,000 in grants ranging from $10,000 to $20,000 to support new or innovative non-profit programs outside of Springfield-Greene County aimed at fighting rural poverty. These grants are made possible through the Louis L. and Julia Dorothy Coover Charitable Foundation Regional Grantmaking Program, which is a partnership between the CFO and Commerce Trust Company.

The application deadline is 5 p.m., Jan. 18, 2013. Grants will be awarded on Feb. 7. 2013. No matching funds are required.

The CFO also offers grant opportunities for members of its Rural Schools Partnership. Details of the 2012-13 grantmaking program will be announced at a later date.
