CFSWMO makes Joplin Recovery Fund grant

Hearts and Hammers JRF check presentation 3-15

The Community Foundation of Southwest Missouri presented a $50,000 grant today to Hearts and Hammers, a Joplin nonprofit group founded in 2003 that is dedicated to repairing and rehabilitating homes for people who are physically or financially unable to do the work themselves.

This grant from the CFSWMO’s Joplin Recovery Fund will be designated to assist Joplin area residents who have been affected by the tornado and need this type of assistance.

Hearts and Hammers Director John Clayton said the group will review applications in the spring to prepare for a large-scale volunteer work day in partnership with Joplin Area Habitat for Humanity on Sept. 26. He said he anticipates some projects taking place outside of that workday as well. Residents interested in applying for Hearts and Hammers assistance should call (417) 629-8135.

The Joplin Recovery Fund, administered by the CFSWMO and the Community Foundation of the Ozarks, has made 90 grants totaling $5.46 million. The CFSWMO continues to accept applications on a rolling basis. The online application is available at: http://CFO.formstack.com/forms/cfswmotornado.
