Springfield lost a tremendous community champion when Bill Stalnaker passed away on June 12. Bill worked for the Boys & Girls Club for 39 years at locations across the country, first in West Virginia and ultimately in Springfield, where he spent 17 years as its executive director. He then dedicated his leadership to The Kitchen, helping increase its donor base and improve its programs before retiring in 2007. Through the years, he also played leadership roles with United Way of the Ozarks’s annual campaigns, Day of Caring and the Community Task Force, as well as Heart of the Ozarks Sertoma Club and Knights of Columbus. For his lifelong dedication to the community, Bill was named the Humanitarian of the Year in 2008. His legacy lives on at the Boys & Girls Club of Springfield’s Stalnaker Unit, located at Division and Fremont.
