Richard Cavender, serving as the CFO’s Board Chair for 2014-15, served as Executive Director of the Meramec Regional Planning Commission, a highly respected and nationally recognized association of local governments formed to provide economic development and technical assistance to 34 cities and 8 counties in south central Missouri. He was active in both the state (MACOG) and national (NADO) organizations of these development associations and served as president in 1982 and 1996 respectively.
Prior to coming to Meramec Richard served as Director of Planning and Development at the Mid-America Regional Council, the regional planning association for the Kansas City metropolitan area.
He has served and provided leadership to the following boards and organizations: Ozarks Council Boy Scouts of America; Christ Episcopal Church; St. James Methodist Church; University of Missouri Planning Liaison Committee; South Central Missouri Shrine Clowns; Missouri Enterprise; and Gingerbread House (home for severely handicapped children). He has also served on the CFO board for the past three years.
Richard is happily married to Jeanne; the couple has five children, eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He enjoys family activities, golf, exercising, gardening and reading.
