  • Reeds Spring School Foundation Raises $35,000 Through Dixie Stampede

One of the most successful partnerships in the Rural Schools Partnership hit a new level over the weekend. For the third consecutive year, the Reeds Spring R-IV Education Foundation had its own special night at Branson’s Dixie Stampede attraction. The program primarily helps establish matching funds for the Foundation’s scholarship program. Tickets–usually more than $50–are specially priced for the event and proceeds from the night are donated to the Foundation. This year, foundation president Jim Holt said the event was a near-sellout, with more than 1,000 people attending the Friday night show. The Foundation was presented with a $35,000 check from Dixie Stampede, with other miscellaneous donations still coming in.

Scholarships are a big priority for Dixie Stampede and owner/creator Dolly Parton’s Dollywood Foundation, Holt said. “I think that’s what Dolly and the DS management want us to do with it,” he said, though a portion of the money will help fund the foundation’s mini-grant program for Reeds Spring teachers and classrooms.

As part of the festivities, former St. Louis Cardinals football star Jackie Smith was a featured guest. Ticket-buyers at the $50 level were able to meet with Smith prior to the event, Holt said. All other tickets were $25, less than half the usual price for a ticket to Dixie Stampede.
