Former CFO Board Chair Ron Ponds Honored at Retirement Reception

The CFO's Suzy Gray surprises former Board Chair Ron Ponds with contributions to his fund at his retirement reception.

Former CFO Board Chairman Ron Ponds was honored at his retirement reception Thursday at the Social Security Administration Office with a ceremonial check representing contributions from his colleagues to his “Helping As You Can” family and community fund.

Chief Financial Officer Suzy Gray surprised Ron with the presentation of $1,445 in contributions made in his honor by friends and colleagues at the Springfield Social Security office, where he has served as manager for 18 years.

During his six-year term on the CFO Board, he served as Chair for fiscal year 2004 and also has served on a number of CFO committees. One of the Action Plan initiatives during his term was the creation of the Family and Community Funds. Ron and his wife, Gwen, then established their “Helping As You Can” fund for their charitable giving.

At the retirement reception, Ron also received a proclamation from the City of Springfield recognizing his community service, which also includes chairing the City Utilities board and serving United Way of the Ozarks.

He said he and Gwen plan to do some traveling, but also stay involved in the community.
