Dollars make a difference for causes donors care about. Frequently, donors are supported by professional advisors who help connect dots between donations and decisions.
The Community Foundation of the Ozarks helps this process through its Professional Advisors Council, a network of attorneys, financial advisors, CPAs and trust officers of all experience levels. These connections help clients make the best decisions for their philanthropy.
“This is a value-add for advisors — it’s a tool in their toolbelt,” says Ashley Silva, vice president of development and philanthropic services at the CFO. “The CFO is here to do what we do best — facilitate charitable giving — and to allow advisors to focus on providing the best service and experience to their clients.”
Joining the PAC is easy and brings a variety of benefits. The CFO periodically shares PAC-exclusive updates with charitable giving tips, promotes its PAC members and their firms on its website and in other communications, and offers networking opportunities. Additionally, the CFO offers externally managed fund relationships.
“Depending on the size of the fund, we can work with advisors to retain assets under management while we handle the charitable giving aspect,” Silva says.
Planned-giving expert Charles Slamar spoke to the CFO’s Professional Advisors Council during a continuing-education opportunity in May.
The connection between advisors and clients is further supported by the CFO’s local presence. Setting up funds is simple to reach clients’ charitable goals and builds on the CFO’s well-established expertise through approximately 3,700 charitable funds established by donors and nonprofits across central and southern Missouri.
Another benefit for PAC members is continuing education, which includes virtual options. The next opportunity is on Oct. 24, when philanthropy expert Phil Cubeta will provide insights on helping baby-boomer business owners fully meet their charitable goals. (Find more info below.)
“The CFO is ready to work alongside you and your clients to meet their philanthropic goals,” Silva says. “The CFO has the local knowledge and personalized service that larger providers may not have. When donors or advisors call with a question, they can talk with a real person.”
Philanthropy expert Phil Cubeta will present “Are You Ready to Help Boomer Business Owners Hit their Legacy Home Run?" to the CFO’s PAC on Oct. 24. The virtual event runs from 8:30–9:45 a.m. and offers CE credits.
As boomers enter their legacy-planning years, they will pass trillions to heirs and nonprofits. The highest capacity donors are in the 1% and the biggest asset class within the 1% is closely-held business interests. During this event, participants will learn how to touch all the bases with such donors, build a team across the disciplines and help them hit their legacy home run.
